About Matthew Mangam

Hi, I’m Matthew Mangam, a passionate sports journalist and media storyteller who thrives at the intersection of athletics, culture, and communication. I’m currently an undergraduate at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, majoring in Journalism and Media Studies with a specialization in Sports Journalism and minoring in Digital Communication, Information, and Media (DCIM).
I serve as the Head Sports Editor for The Daily Targum, Rutgers’ student newspaper, and as a sports broadcaster for 88.7 WRSU-FM, where I cover games, provide commentary, and produce on-air segments. Beyond campus, I also write for Hudson River Blue, a site dedicated to covering New York City FC and the broader Major League Soccer community. Working with these outlets has strengthened my ability to tell stories that go beyond the scoreboard — capturing the people, emotions, and culture that make sports so impactful.
When I’m not writing or broadcasting, you can usually find me following the latest sports news or exploring how media and technology shape the fan experience. I’m passionate about the evolving landscape of digital journalism and am always looking for ways to merge creativity with credibility in my reporting.
Outside of journalism, I enjoy watching soccer (especially Newcastle United or New York City FC), listening to music, and watching movies.
