I’m still not entirely sure about the type of project I want to do, but I know for certain that it will involve some video, including a Zoom interview with someone. Because of that, I want to do a multimedia story, but I also want to write. I would be willing to create blog posts that also feature video footage from my interview for my Capstone project. By doing that, I can utilize my greatest strength, which I believe is my writing, while also incorporating some form of multimedia into the project — that is why this format appeals to me. I don’t think it would be best for me to do an infographic or podcast.
I can use parts of the interview to communicate the ideas of my project. For example, if I make a point in my blog post, I can follow it up with a 30-second sound bite from the interview that supports what I said.
Capstone project topic
The topic I want to focus on in my capstone project is the impact of digital technology on sports media. I can talk about everything from sports writing to broadcasting and even podcasting. There are more sports podcasts than ever before, and some of these people do it for a living. I also want to discuss how sports journalists are no longer just writers; some journalists are now social media influencers who post TikToks and Instagram Reels about specific teams, stories, and their reporting.
This topic interests me because it is the field I want to work in upon graduation. I want to become a sports writer, but through researching for this project, I’ve opened my eyes to just how many different angles there are in sports media, thanks to the internet. I want to explore why journalists have flocked to Instagram and TikTok to create content, rather than sharing those thoughts in an article for an outlet. It is truly a fascinating thing because you don’t consider some people who post about sports on TikTok as journalists, but they are. They’re telling stories and painting a picture for the audience.
This topic will engage my audience because my brand is about sports media. I think the audience will be interested to see what my takeaways are from completing this project, and I’m excited to share it with everyone.
